MindMaps of HappyAtom Services

seeing the big pictureEveryone needs context

We help to develop:

  • commercial awareness
  • business acumen
  • a big picture perspective
  • financial savvy and
  • customer focus

in managers.

Because

  • the modern world is fast-moving - there simply isn't time to pass decisions up the line - and even if there were
  • good decisions depend on good information - and the best information is close to the action, unfiltered and untainted
  • but managers need to understand the strategic context in which they operate, the financial implications - long and short-term, the impact on brand and customer perceptions ...

... so, your managers make better decisions and ...

  • with greater understanding and more opportunities to contribute, the more likely it is that they will:
    • show initiative
    • increase effort
    • become team-oriented

developing for the futureHappy Atom can help

Our focus is on the 'hard' skills and commercial awareness that managers require to make effective decisions. We recognise that your organisation is unique. It faces unique challenges. And tomorrow those challenges will be different.

There is no simple template or set of universal principles that guarantee success. In fact, the danger for many organisations is the rigid imposition of solutions to somebody else's problems. The management gurus have a lot to answer for!

Rather, we help managers to think and to find the solutions to their unique problems. We equip them with the frameworks, insights, perspectives, tools and techniques that they will help them succeed today - and in the future.

What's in a Name?

Our name was 'borrowed' from a throwaway description of the McKinsey 7-S framework. The idea behind the concept is that there is no single source of success. A good strategy needs effective systems, an appropriate structure and leadership style, skilled, motivated staff and shared values to provide the glue. A diagram of the S's, with the inter-relationships shown looks something like one of those atomic models from a GCSE chemistry class, hence the "Happy Atom".

Our courses emphasise inter-connectedness. For instance, a major driver of shareholder value is brand. But what is brand? Well, a major component of brand is how staff interact with customers (brand after all is what exists in the collective mind of customers and prospects). What affects how staff interact - leadership and culture. What affects leadership and culture - investment in training.

We have a virtuous circle. But of course there are many more. And some vicious ones too. Which brings us back to the importance of managers seeing the big picture and truly understanding the implications of their actions.
